Dare to Care? Dare to Share!

Just as in America, where there are many Americans committed to the local church, outreach, children’s ministry and building the Kingdom of God, there are many Peruvians who do likewise here in this beautiful country. We have met many dedicated Christians who work tirelessly to make a difference.

Let me introduce you to one such couple, Nelson and Amalia Juarez, personal friends of ours. We met them about 9 years ago. Once you meet this couple you will never forget them. They are so very loving, outgoing, and welcome everyone into their home, church, or activity. They are friends forever. Nelson has a great sense of humor and Amalia is gifted with being bi-lingual. They have been to our home and we have visited their home. We have shared passions, troubles, stories, meals, coffee, a retreat and ministry. We have prayed for them at different times and have confidence they have prayed for us.

Nelson and Amalia pastor a Christian congregation in a suburb of Lima, Peru. The rent a “Lions Club” facility and have a powerful ministry where truth is taught, Jesus is praised, and glorified. Music in their church leads you in worship, raising your hands, tapping your feet and clapping your hands. It is lively, but definitely worshipful. They travel 1 hour and 30 minutes from their home to their place of worship and ministry. Many hours are spent on buses to go to and from the church and to and from the cell group homes. The financial investment is not much, but the time and discomfort (public buses are not known for comfort, quiet, or relaxed transportation!) wears on them, as it does on others. They don’t complain. It is a way of life for most Peruvians.

They also have an on-going lively ministry to children called “The Children’s Club” and it is in a different location, again requiring them to take public transportation to and from the ministry site. About 70 children are hearing the gospel, and being taught the Word of God weekly, and Nelson and Amalia wouldn’t miss the opportunity to preach and teach the Good News to everyone.

The congregation is small in numbers but huge in love for Jesus and one another. About 30 adults and 70 children make up the family of God meeting at “Christian Church, In Jesus Christ there is Hope”. Under their leadership, growth is on the horizon and they have one desire that we have been asked to pray about. This we want to share with you. They have available, from their retirement, $5000 (US) and want to purchase a minibus for their ministry. They are looking for a loan of $5,000 to purchase a minibus with 8 seats. This will enable them and a few others from the church to continue the weekly outreach without spending hours in travel time. They have budgeted $150 a month to repay the loan.

We can, and will pray about this need. We ask our family and friends to do the same. God, our Father, owns the cattle on a thousand hills, the wealth in every mine. He owns the rivers and the rocks and rills the sun and stars that shine. Wonderful riches, more than tongue can tell – He is my Father so they’re mine as well, He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, I KNOW THAT HE WILL CARE FOR ME (FOR NELSON & AMALIA AS WELL!) Please pray for this couple and their present financial need.
